Banyuwangi regency in East Java recently hosted Banyuwangi Ethno Carnival (BEC) on Nov. 11 that was attended by Tourism Minister Arief Yahya and Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Puan Maharani.
“What creates [BEC] opposite is all is run by a people of Banyuwangi; from dance studio, musicians, dancers to a committee,” pronounced Banyuwangi Regent Azwar Anas.
Themed “Majestic Ijen”, BEC presented a sum of 160 local-designed costumes desirous by a beauty of Ijen Volcano.
Additionally, participating in BEC is a stepping-stone for these designers. One BEC alumni named Annisa Feby Chaurina who initial gained approval for her work during a event is now an award-winning dress designer.

Annisa was a designer behind a dress Barong Sunar Udara that won best inhabitant dress during a Miss Supermodel International 2016 in New Delhi, India. She also designed The Exotica of Gandrung Banyuwangi ragged by Putri Indonesia Jawa Timur during a Putri Indonesia 2016, that was among a tip 3 list of a pageant’s best normal dress category.
“Banyuwangi Ethno Carnival shines a spotlight on internal culture; it shows that BEC has turn an art designation that’s value praising,” told Puan.
BEC has always been unchanging in highlighting a internal culture. The prior 6 BEC events were themed Gandrung, Damarwulan and Kundaran, re- Barong Using, Kebo-Keboan, The Mystic Dance of Seblang, Kemanten Using and The Legend of Sritanjung Sidopekso, respectively. This year outlines a seventh anniversary of a carnival.
BEC is one of a 72 events being hold in Banyuwangi this year. Apart from BEC, other large events hosted by a regency embody Gandrung Sewu and Tour de Ijen.
“Banyuwangi is one of a cities with a many events; it hosts adult to 72 events in a year, definition that there’s always a festival being hold each week. The income per capita in Banyuwangi also went adult from Rp 14 million to Rp 41 million,” told Arief. (kes)
